A few examples of what we have been up to lately: 


Client: RPS Group
Project: Wexford Wind Turbine Compliance #2

We were delighted to be re-selected to manage the monitoring programme for phase 2 of this project (see below). Our monitors now use solar panels to provide indefinite power. Remote telemetry is now standard and we have developed new tools to automatically monitor data usage and battery voltages. Measured data is automatically uploaded to our cloud servers (subject to mobile signal) and we conduct extensive quality control checks on the data before sharing with the client.


Costs are reduced and reliability is improved thanks to solar power and remote communications.



Client: Enerco

Compliance monitoring for a large Wind Turbine site


We have worked on several projects over the last couple of years for this client but this one was the most complex; 14 months, 6 sites including low frequency and audio recording.


Due to very poor mobile signals in the area we were unable to upload the data remotely so regular site visits were required to download data. This we then shared with the client’s UK and Irish consultants and we also liaised with the turbine manufactures who were tweaking the operational profile.

Project: Amplitude Modulation of small Wind Turbine site

We deployed our noise monitors with a specific set-up to capture audio recordings and log 100ms data. This produces a lot of data which our resident analysis expert complied for use with the IOA AMWG’s algorithm for analysing and rating AM.


Our previous monitoring programme at the planning stage successfully led to this site’s operation. However, under certain conditions, one neighbour complained about AM once the site was operational.

The monitoring programme quickly identified, rated and confirmed the occurrences. Our report also included a discussion on the operational scenarios that led to the likelihood of AM which could then be fed into the operational profile for the site.



Client: Apple Ireland
Project: Long-term Construction Site - Noise & Vibration monitoring

Over nearly 2 years, our ever-versatile instrumentation coupled with 3G telemetry allowed us to offer ‘forward-looking’ emails alerts to operators as well as remote data download.


Residential properties were very close to this site, so it was critical that operators were aware of any potential limit exceedance quickly and accurately. We also produced weekly compliance reports for the client with audio recordings of limit exceedance. This was shared via our secure cloud service to the licensing authority.

A transparent and reliable monitoring programme reassured the licensing authority and neighbours which allowed construction to proceed without interruption.

Project: Wexford Wind Turbine Compliance
Solution: Enfonic were uniquely positioned to deploy a large quantity of state-of-the-art B&K Type 2250 Sound Level Meters which had the necessary technical specifications to meet this complex tender requirements. Moreover, we had the required experience installing, running and managing the huge amounts of data that this monitoring programme produced.


After extensive discussions with the client, the number and positions of the thirteen noise monitors and three weather stations were selected. We liaised with the landowners and installed each with sufficient batteries provide power for at least two weeks. One monitor also had 3G communication which was configured to send a daily email alert that detailed it’s measurement status. This allowed our engineers to monitor it’s status so that any issues could then be responded to, minimising any potential data loss.



Client: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Project: Comliance and Noise Compliant Investigations
Solution: We have conducted many investigations throughout the country as our of our contract with the EPA


Each site require a bespoke monitoring programme which could include attended measurements and unattended monitors. Some locations also required internal and external complainant-activated audio recording systems.

Detailed analysis of limit exceedances and acoustic characterises for Tonality and Impulsivity were conducted in accordance with EPA guidance and other applicable standards including BS4142 and reports submitted as part of the EPA's licensing role.



Client: Bodytonic
Project: Beatyard festival
Solution: Single noise monitor installed to ensure license compliance

Initially an attended survey was envisaged by the client but following our advise, a Smart Noise Monitor with remote communication was used which reduced costs improved reliability.

The noise monitor sent emails on threshold exceedance ensuring maximum utilisation of the license limit.


Client: T&I Fitouts
Project: Office Acoustics
Solution: Survey, analysis and recommendations to solve some tricky acoustic issues in tele-conference and meeting rooms for a prestigious Dublin office.
Benefit: Our room acoustics expertise provided our clients' client with a cost-effective and timely solution.

A far more expensive niose masking solution was being considered but we were quickly able to identify a more cost-effective approach.


Client: Grassland Agro
Project: Occupation Noise Assessment
Solution: We conducted a comprehensive monitoring programme using attended measurements and personal dose meters. A user-friendly report with unique Noise Contour Map was submitted
Benefit: Recommended noise control measues removed the requirement for employees to wear hearing protection.


Client: Waterford Institute of Technology
Project: Complaint investigation of noise from chiller unit
Solution:  Noise survey on-site and at residence. Noise prediction calculation and un-attended noise monitoring.
Benefit: Report concluded that noise from chillers could not be the source of the complaint. Further analysis identified the source to be a nearby mains transformer.



Client: AWN Consulting
Project: N5 Traffic Noise Survey
Solution:  Conducted probably Ireland's largest traffic noise survey on proposed N5 re-alignment project in accordance with latest NRA guidelines. Data provided from 84 attended locations + 24 long-term monitors over a 24km distance in record time.
Benefit: All data including noise, photos, location and observations complied into succinct and efficient report format which could easily inform the remainder of the impact assessment.
