Probably our favourite Sound Level Meter and perfect for almost all applications. It’s easy to use with on-screen help in case further explanation of anything on the screen is needed.
There are also some advanced features available if your measurements need something more specialised like Tonal analysis or event recordings but you’ll find it ideal for more general applications as well.
The large screen is touch sensitive and the user-interface is really intuitive with context-sensitive on-screen help in case you get stuck (of course the included quick guide should also help). There is a single ‘traffic light’ button to control the measurement so it’s as simple as start, stop, store.
It’s ‘little brother’ the Type 2250-L may also be worth considering for all but the most specialised applications as they share a lot of functionality.

Type 2250-E is a Class 1 meter with all the necessary broadband parameters and real-time frequency spectra. In addition, if your measurements require spectral statistics e.g. LA90 in 1/3 Octaves, it is the only meter with this capability.
Overview of Features
- Broadband parameters with simultaneous time and frequency weightings
- Seven Statistical parameters including L90, L10 etc
- Octave or 1/3 Octave Frequency Analysis
- Logging of all the above to produce time-history reports
- Compatible with our range of Environmental Enclosures, Outdoor Microphones and Remote Communication options
- Audio recording –event triggered (on threshold exceedance), for the complete measurement or manually controlled (requires remote communication)
- Single range setting up to 140dB
- 3 Hz to 20 kHz broadband linear frequency range with supplied microphone Type 4189/4190
- 16.4 dB to 140 dB A-weighted dynamic range with supplied microphone Type 4189/4190
- Communication via USB, LAN, or GPRS/3G modems
- USB 2.0 host for connection to printer, GPS, weather station, modem
- USB interface (plus Ethernet port on G4 instruments) – for data download and remote control
- Plug-in rechargeable Li-ion battery (> 8h operation) + mains power supply
- SD memory slot (two on the G4 instruments) that support Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) cards
If your measurements require some advanced analysis or specialist functionality, there are a range of additional software modules available, including:
- BZ7225 Enhanced Logging
- BZ7228 Building Acoustics
- BZ7230 FFT Analysis
- BZ7231 Tone Analysis (often used with BZ7230)
Remote communication
When undertaking unattended monitoring Remote access to the Sound Level Meter is now a common requirement. When used with our 3G Router+SIM, the Type 2250-E is the ideal instrument for this.
For instance, for Construction Noise and other applications, the ability to trigger Audio recordings when a noise threshold is exceeded can be invaluable and help identify noise sources and our range of Environmental Enclosures offer the necessary protection, provide battery power etc. (solar panels are also available).
- Email alerting on limit exceedances
- Daily email alerts to confirm status
- Full remote control or View-only ‘guest’ from any internet browser
- Remote data downloading using B&K’s BZ5502 MPS software
- Automated downloading when using BZ7225 Enhanced Logging
If there is anything else that you need but isn’t listed, please let us know and we’ll endeavour to source it (given enough notice, we can normally provide whatever our customers need e.g. low frequency/level microphones, head and torso simulators etc).
Application Case Studies
The Type 2250-E has been used on several of our Case Studies including Concert Noise and Noisy Neighbour Complaint Investigation.
