Occupational Noise Measurement

CLIENT

Searson Associates have a long history of conducting measurements in many aspects of acoustics especially in the area of Occupational Noise assessment.

PROJECT

One increasingly common investigation is that of noise exposure due to the use of headsets and telephones in call centres. Due to the fact that the primary noise source is positioned so close to the ear of the operator, these measurements and therefore the assessment of noise exposure, are almost impossible to make using traditional techniques.

ENFONIC SERVICE PROVIDED

Searson Associates have used the unique Bruel & Kjaer Head & Torso Simulator (HATS) provided by Enfonic to overcome these problems. The HATS system has a standardised artificial ear which incorporates a measurement microphone. This replaces the standard microphone on a Sound Level Meter and so measurements of noise levels within the ear can be easily made.

Other HATS may also be applied to standardised telephone testing, cockpit noise evaluation and the assessment of hearing protector performance.

FURTHER USES OF HATS SYSTEM

HATS is an integral part of the measurements of Sound Quality which are made by machine, car and other manufacturers in helping to develop quality sounding devices.
